View formula
For cumulative FD: A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt). P is principal, r is annual interest rate, n is compounding frequency and t is time in years. Payout estimates use periodic simple interest and return the principal at maturity.
How FD interest works
A fixed deposit locks a deposit for a selected period at an agreed rate. A cumulative FD compounds interest and pays it at maturity. Payout FDs periodically pay estimated interest while returning principal at maturity.
Quarterly compounding
Quarterly compounding is common in Indian FD products, but actual bank conventions, payout dates, penalties and rates vary. Use the bank's applicable terms for a final figure.
FD vs savings account
FDs can offer a known rate for a fixed period, while savings-account rates and balances may be more flexible. Compare liquidity, rate and premature-withdrawal terms before deciding.
Senior citizen FD
Senior-citizen rates vary by bank and product. This calculator lets you enter the applicable rate instead of assuming a universal premium.
